Accessibility Services

Southeast Technical College is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming experience by providing services and supports that ensure students can access and participate in all the activities, programs and services.

To ensure equal access, Accessibility Services provides accommodations, education, consultation and advocacy for qualified students with disabilities at Southeast Technical College. In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act of 2008, Southeast Technical College ensures that no student with a disability will be discriminated against or denied access to, participation in, or benefits of programs, services and activities offered by Southeast Technical College.  Accessibility Services will work collaboratively with students to identify reasonable accommodations that support them in their academic programs and co-curricular activities at Southeast Technical College.

Our Process

It is the responsibility of the student to make their disability status and need for an accommodation known to the Accessibility Services office. Once the steps for seeking out accommodations have been following, the Accessibility Services Coordinator will follow professional standards in reviewing student documentation and determining the provision of reasonable accommodations. In order to register with the Accessibility Services office, please follow these steps:

Required Steps:

  1. Admission to Southeast Tech

Admission decisions are made without regard to disability and you are not required to disclose your disability during the admissions process. You do need to be an admitted student at Southeast Tech, however, to fully complete the registration process for Accessibility Services.

  2. Self-Disclosure

Once admitted to Southeast Tech, students in need of accommodation must self-identify with Accessibility Services to request and receive reasonable accommodations. Students may also self-identify to and be referred by faculty, advisors, or other student support staff. Please note that students may request accommodation at any point during their education, including at any point during a semester.

  3. Register with Accessibility Services

Students must complete the Accessibility Services Registration Form.

  4. Provide Documentation

Students must provide qualifying, professional documentation of their disability. Documentation requirements vary according to the unique nature of the student’s disability. Please view the Southeast Tech Disability Documentation Guidelines in preparing documentation for submission. It is important to note that Accessibility Services does not test for or diagnose disability. If a student does not have documentation of their disability, the Accessibility Services Coordinator can provide referral for further evaluation.

  5. Review of Information and Interactive Process

Accessibility Services uses an interactive process to determine reasonable accommodations that meet the individual needs of each student. The Accessibility Services Coordinator determines reasonable accommodations based on information from the student registration form, conversation with the student, documentation, professional standards, and other applicable considerations. The Accessibility Services Coordinator will then meet with the student to discuss accommodation options based on each student’s unique request and needs.
